One of the best things about working from 4 Mort Street is lunch. Within a few minutes' walk you have specialty coffee, quick bowls and sandwiches, long-running local favourites and a handful of restaurants that work well for a client meeting. This is our short list, grouped by what you need on the day. Walking times are approximate, measured from our front door. Our neighbourhood map shows nearby cafés, restaurants and transport.
A quick note before you head out: opening hours change, especially around public holidays, so check a venue's own website or social channels before you lock in a booking.
Start in the building
Workspace by black vc has its own café, inside the workspace on Level 3, so on a busy morning you can get your first coffee without leaving the building. If you are in for a day pass or a meeting, it is also the easiest spot to meet someone before you head upstairs.
Quick coffee
When you just need a good coffee and a short walk:
Superfine Café, on the corner of Mort and Bunda Streets, about 2 minutes away. It is a long-standing local favourite that the ACT Government's roundup of Canberra's best coffees describes as known for friendly staff, great coffee and toasties.
East Row Specialty Coffee, in the Sydney Building on East Row, about 3 minutes away. The same roundup notes it serves ONA coffee, is open seven days and does catering, which is handy if you are hosting a morning meeting.
Espresso Room, on the ground level of the Canberra Centre, about 3 minutes away. A local coffee chain with a Canberra City shop listed in the Canberra Centre directory.
The Cupping Room, on University Avenue, about 10 minutes' walk west. Run by the ONA Coffee team and well known for its lattes, it is worth the walk when you want to get out of the office for a proper break.
Working lunch
For a quick, inexpensive lunch you can eat in or take back to your desk:
Dosa Hut, on City Walk, about a minute away. South Indian food, including dosas, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, open for lunch and dinner according to its Visit Canberra listing.
Happy's Chinese Restaurant, downstairs on Garema Place, a minute or two away. Open since 1962, it is described as Canberra's first Chinese restaurant and still serves retro Australian Chinese cooking. Lunch days vary, so check before you go.
Rice & Nori, Shop 7, 131 City Walk, about a minute away. A sushi takeaway that makes its rolls in house, according to its website.
Rice Thai, 24 Garema Place, about 2 minutes away. A Thai restaurant that is still posting on its Instagram.
Blu Ginger, 5-21 Genge Street, about 2 minutes away. An Indian restaurant that takes online orders through its website.
Nando's, on the ground level of the Canberra Centre, about 3 minutes away. PERi-PERi chicken, burgers and wraps, listed in the Canberra Centre directory.
Canberra Centre grab-and-go. The Bunda Street side of the Canberra Centre has added several quick options in 2026, including Stacks Sandwich Co. and 38 Katsu, according to the Canberra Centre's dining update.
If you are working through, the Coles and Aldi at the Canberra Centre are about 3 to 4 minutes away for salads and snacks.
Client lunch
When you want a table, good service and somewhere that makes a good impression:
Akiba, 40 Bunda Street, about a minute away. Asian barbecue, raw dishes and modern dim sum cooked over wood and charcoal. Its website lists it as open seven days from 11:30 am, takes bookings and caters for groups.
SoLita Pizzeria, 143 London Circuit, about 2 to 3 minutes away. Neapolitan pizza and pasta, with lunch from Tuesday to Friday according to its website, and a banquet menu for groups of 12 or more.
Iori, 41 East Row, about 2 minutes away. A Japanese restaurant that has been in the city for 25 years. It is a dinner venue, open in the evenings from Monday to Saturday, so it suits a relaxed client dinner rather than lunch.
If your meeting needs a quieter setting before or after the meal, you can book one of our meeting rooms by the hour.
After-work drinks
For the end of the day, with the team or with clients:
Wilma, 1 Genge Street, about 2 minutes away. An Asian barbecue restaurant with a public bar and an outdoor terrace serving Asian-inspired cocktails and snacks, open from 4 pm Monday to Thursday and from midday Friday to Sunday.
Molly, behind an unmarked door on Odgers Lane by the Melbourne Building, about 5 minutes away. A small whisky and cocktail bar with live jazz on several nights a week, opening from 4 pm on weekdays. Good for a quieter drink with a client.
Canberra Centre. Oh My Papa (Asian share plates with a rooftop bar) lists its hours on its Canberra venue page, so check them before you go.
Our own events, including monthly Networking Nights, are another easy way to finish the day with people from the building and beyond.
Canberra Centre
The Canberra Centre is about 4 to 5 minutes' walk east along Bunda Street. Beyond the places above, it has a large food court, footpath cafés, restaurants including the Tiger Lane precinct (listed by Visit Canberra), and a steady stream of new openings on the Bunda Street side. It is the easiest choice for a group with different tastes, or when it is cold and you would rather stay indoors.
Garema Place
Garema Place, a pedestrian plaza just east of Mort Street, is the heart of this part of Civic. The ACT Government finished upgrading Garema Place in 2026 with level paving, more seating, better lighting, shade trees and more space for outdoor dining. On a sunny day it is the best spot nearby to eat outside, and Happy's is right there.
