Workspace by black vc is at Level 3, 4 Mort Street, in the middle of Canberra City (most locals still call it Civic). That puts you within a short walk of the light rail, the main bus interchange, several multi-storey car parks and a good network of bike paths. This guide covers each option, with current prices and a few local tips.

Where exactly is 4 Mort Street?

Mort Street runs north from City Walk to Bunda Street, on the eastern side of the City Interchange and one block from the Canberra Centre. On foot, using straight-line distances from our map:

  • Alinga Street light rail stop: about 3 minutes
  • City Interchange (the City bus station): about 2 minutes
  • Canberra Centre car park: about 4 to 5 minutes, depending on which entrance you use
  • Nearest taxi rank: about 100 m

Our neighbourhood map shows all of these, plus nearby bike parking, cafés and car parks.

Coming by light rail

The light rail runs along Northbourne Avenue between Gungahlin Place and Alinga Street, which is the City terminus. According to the operator's published frequency guide, services run about every 5 to 6 minutes in weekday peaks, every 10 minutes in the middle of the day, and every 15 minutes in the evening and on weekends. From Alinga Street, walk east along the bus interchange to Mort Street.

The line is being extended south along London Circuit to Commonwealth Park (Stage 2A). The ACT Government says construction is due to finish in early 2027, with regular services expected in early 2028, and warns of intermittent road and lane closures for the rest of 2026. If you drive in via London Circuit, allow a few extra minutes.

Buses and the City Interchange

The City Interchange is the main hub of Canberra's bus network, with stops along Alinga Street, East Row and Mort Street. That means most bus trips into the city end within a couple of minutes' walk of our door. Use the Transport Canberra journey planner to find your route.

Fares: how MyWay+ works

Canberra's ticketing system is MyWay+. You can tap on and off with a MyWay+ card, a Visa or Mastercard, or a QR code in the MyWay+ app. Adult fares as at October 2026 (in place since 10 January 2026), from the Transport Canberra fares page:

  • Peak fare: $3.41 (weekdays before 9:00 am and from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm)
  • Off-peak fare: $2.70
  • Daily cap: $10.16 on weekdays, $6.22 on weekends and public holidays
  • Monthly cap: after 40 paid trips in a calendar month, the rest of the month's travel is free while you keep tapping on and off. You need to keep using the same payment method (the same card, phone or MyWay+ card) for your trips to count toward the cap

The same fares apply on buses and light rail.

From Canberra Airport

The Rapid 3 bus links the airport terminal with the City Interchange. Canberra Airport says it runs every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends, seven days a week, and takes under 20 minutes to the city. You can tap on with a bank card, phone or MyWay+ card, and there is a ticket machine on the ground level near baggage claim. From the City Interchange it is about a two-minute walk to Mort Street.

Taxis and rideshare are also available at the terminal. For drop-off, ask your driver for Mort Street or Bunda Street.

Parking in Canberra City

Canberra City parking is a mix of ACT Government pay parking (on-street and open-air car parks) and privately run multi-storey car parks. Always check the signs where you park, because time limits and paid hours vary by street.

ACT Government parking fees

Fees for the city centre, as at October 2026 (in place since 1 July 2026), from Access Canberra:

  • 4-hour premium parking: $5.00 an hour, up to $20.00
  • All-day premium parking: $4.00 an hour, up to $23.00
  • All-day other parking: $2.00 an hour, up to $15.00
  • After hours on weeknights and weekends (selected locations): $2.00 an hour, up to $7.00

Ticket machines at government car parks take coins, Visa and Mastercard, and you can also pay through a parking app, in which case you don't need to display a ticket. If you drive in most days, pre-paid weekly ($109) and monthly ($432) premium tickets save a little on daily prices.

The closest car parks to Mort Street

  • Canberra Centre car park: the nearest large option, with entrances off Ainslie Avenue and Cooyong Street, Petrie Street and Scott's Crossing. As at October 2026, the Canberra Centre lists $4 for up to an hour, $9 for three hours and $13 for four hours, rising to $40 for more than seven hours. Rooftop all-day parking is $16, and a $4 flat rate applies from 6 pm Friday, all weekend and on public holidays. The height limit is 1.95 m, and some levels have reduced capacity during building works.
  • Narellan Street car park: an open-air car park next to the Canberra Centre, about 333 bays, from $4 for an hour to $35 for up to seven hours.
  • City Hill car park: on London Circuit at Constitution Avenue, $5 an hour or $23 all day on weekdays, with free evening parking from Wednesday to Sunday, 5:30 pm to 8:30 am.

These figures come from the ACT Government's guide to parking in the city centre (July 2026) and the Canberra Centre. Rates change, so check on arrival.

Park and Ride

If you live in the suburbs, the ACT Government runs free Park and Ride car parks at 22 locations. Park there, then take the light rail or a bus into the city and skip city parking fees entirely. Some sites need a digital Park and Ride permit, linked to the same MyWay+ account you use to pay for your trip, so check the Park and Ride locations and permit rules before you go.

Cycling and e-scooters

Canberra has a large network of shared paths, on-road bike lanes and quiet streets, which makes riding into the city a realistic daily option. Once you arrive:

  • In our building: bicycle storage and end-of-trip facilities for members.
  • Public bike stands: several on and around Mort Street, plus covered bike parking (a fee applies) about 100 m away.
  • On public transport: most buses carry a rack for two bikes, and each light rail vehicle has four bike racks, according to Transport Canberra.
  • Shared e-bikes and e-scooters: these operate around Canberra City, so you can ride one in and leave it nearby.

Accessibility

Transport Canberra says all its buses are wheelchair accessible, with ramps and space for wheelchairs and prams, and that the light rail stops and vehicles are fully accessible, with dedicated areas for mobility aid users. The city centre has designated accessible parking bays, including four on-street accessible spaces just west of Northbourne Avenue near Alinga Street; you need to display a valid disability parking permit. If you are visiting us and need help getting in, call ahead on (02) 5111 1110.

Visiting after hours

The building's lifts need a member pass after 5:30 pm, and the ground floor doors lock at 7:30 pm. If you are coming to an evening event or meeting, guests need to be met in the ground floor lobby, so call (02) 5111 1110 when you arrive.

Come and see the space

If you are weighing up a Canberra base for your team, being able to step off the light rail or the airport bus and walk to your desk in a few minutes makes a real difference.
